Famous National Monuments of India
Qutab Minar: This monument attracts many visitors from all across the world. Its construction began in the 12th century and was completed in 13th century. The height of the Qutab Minar is 230 feet, making it an architectural achievement of its time. There is a circular stairway for reaching the top of the monument from where you can get breathtaking views of the surrounding areas, although presently, the visitors are not allowed to climb Uttar Pradesh, due to fragile stairs. There are five distinct storeys, each having a balcony of its own. Intricate carvings and deeply inscribed verses from Koran can be found at the Qutab Minar.

Taj Mahal: The grandeur of the Islamic architecture is epitomized in the Taj Mahal, built by the Mughal Emperor Shajahan. Fountains and ornamental trees encompass the Taj Mahal. The beauty of the Taj Mahal gets enhanced when the full moon shines upon it. The subtle moonlight brings out the radiance of the Taj Mahal. Designs of flowers, intricate calligraphy, and the famous pietra dura carvings from gems decorate the Taj Mahal.

Red Fort: Red Fort is another of the famous monuments of India, having red sandstone walls. The monument has withstood all the ravages of time and nature and still stands proudly as one of the enduring symbols of India. Mughla administrative workd were performed in that era inside these monuments.The construction of this fort began in 1638 and got complete in 1648. There are also halls of public and private audience, mosque, domed and arched marble palaces, all inside this ancient monument which is worth a visit.

Victoria Memorial: One of the most notable among the monuments of India, this monument is placed at the City of Joy, Kolkata. The idea of the monument was first conceived by Lord Curzon and it was constructed to commemorate the British Empire, with the accession of Queen Victoria. Numerous hybrid features mark the Victoria memorial. Some of the characteristic features of Victoria Memorial are Italian style statues at the entrance, tall elegant open colonnades along its sides and Mughal domes at its corners . Apart from these, there are many other Indian monuments like the Charminar, Shore Temples at Mahabalipuram, Agra Fort and the Golkunda Fort, among others which too should be visited by tourists interested in the history of India. Constant efforts are made by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for the preservation of these national monuments in India.
