Organized in the month of February by Uttar Pradesh Tourism, the Taj Mahotsav is a ten-day festival,
which highlights the cultural heritage of the most heavily populated state in India.
Set against the historical background of the Taj Mahal, the fair is held at Shilpgram.
The event kicks off with a majestic and magnificent procession complete with dressed up elephants, camels and drummers.
The main aim behind the festival is to bring together all the skilled artisans and craftsmen from the different parts of Uttar Pradesh and exhibit their wares at a common platform. The chikan work from Lucknow, the brassware from Moradabad, silks from Benaras, leather from Agra, all these and many more are on display and sale in the fair. Apart from the arts and crafts the Mahotsav is also the venue for great food including some unique and tasty dishes from the hinterland of Uttar Pradesh. To complete the experience don't miss the interesting folk dances like Nautanki and Sapera.
Agra is accessible by air, rail and road. Agra Airport connects the city with all major cities in India. The railway station is also the destination for many trains and many luxury coaches and ordinary, no frills bus services also ply to and fro from Agra.
