In the south of Gujarat, Daman (administratively a Union Territory) also has a number of beaches but for the most part they appeal to those to whom a beach is a beach in the strict sense of the word, i.e., a stretch of sand along the sea.
The beaches of Diu, on the other hand, attract even the most seasoned beach lover. Diu is a small, beautiful island.
Along its southern shore are a number of inviting, palm girt sandy stretches. Nagoa in particular with its wind-tossed palm trees, soft fine sands and waters that are safe for swimmers is a heady reminder of the beaches of Goa and beckons to those who wish to experience the true joys of being on a beach.
However, in contrast to the famed beaches of Goa, the relatively undiscovered beaches of Diu are free from crowds of holidaymakers. The beach hotels at Diu and those that have wonderful sea views have an additional attraction—a charming, unhurried, old-world ambience.
Between them, the unspolit beaches of Gujarat, Daman and Diu constitute a paradise for those who love the soft feel of the sands and the sea spray amidst palm-fringed settings and shores pounded by wild waves—natural, glorious settings where comforts created by man have become a part of the irresistible lure of beaches that glow and throb with color and movement and life.
